alternative drug treatment

I am a big fan of alternative drug rehab. I don’t know if this is because I went to an alternative drug rehab, or because the way I try to live my life is kind of along the lines of what an alternative drug rehab tries to teach. Either way,  as a sober woman, I think alternative drug rehab is very helpful and effective in the smaller sense of getting sober and also the bigger picture of living a better life.

For people who are unfamiliar with drug rehab, the world alternative may make absolutely no sense. In fact many people’s ideas of drug rehab are kind of scary. I am here to tell you otherwise and to tell you don’t worry. Drug rehab itself is nothing like what you have probably seen on movies or T.V. and alternative drug rehab even more so. So what is alternative drug rehab?

Many drug rehabs use the traditional and straightforward approach to addiction and alcoholism. For instance, they use therapy techniques, and medications. These treatments are very helpful, and even alternative drug rehabs will use these techniques to a certain extent, but an alternative drug rehab offers much more than that.  The name alternative drug rehab means that this kind of drug rehab offers alternative therapies to medication and individual or group counseling or psychotherapy etc. Alternative drug rehab could also be called holistic drug rehab.

Some examples of alternative therapies that an alternative drug rehab offers are:

  • Acupuncture
  • Meditation
  • Massage
  • Yoga
  • Chanting
  • Reiki
  • Aromatherapy
  • Vitamin Therapy
  • Exercise
  • Equine Therapy
  • Native American sweat lodge

And so much more depending on the specific alternative drug rehab! Chances are in today’s day and age you might already be an active participant in on these alternative therapies such as massage or yoga, as well as meditation. All of these things are not only an integral part of treating the disease of addiction and alcoholism,  but are also great way for you to continue doing healthy things that you used to do before your addiction and alcoholism set in.

The importance of alternative drug rehab, and the reason I put my own word behind a drug rehab like this, is the fact that I believe drug addiction and alcoholism consist of more than just a physical and mental disease. I believe addiction is also a spiritual disease. And alternative drug rehab makes sure to treat all three of these things with the alternative therapies. Not only do the alternative therapies, for instance yoga, treat the physical and mental body but they also treat the spiritual aspect of a person. This is paramount in continuing on a happy and fulfilling life. Alternative drug rehab isn’t just focused on getting a person sober. It is also focused on giving that person the tools they need to have a true sense of well-being. Because I went to an alternative drug rehab, I not only found ways to sober but I also found ways to better my life in a mental, physical and especially a spiritual way. Because of that my life is more fulfilling than I could ever imagine.
