Trick Daddy, whose given name is Maurice Young, was arrested and taken to jail after an April 3rd search of his Miramar, FL home turned up a gram of cocaine and a 9mm handgun and ammo. The South Florida rapper is a previously-convicted felon.
Trick Daddy was convicted back in 1991 for cocaine possession and carrying a concealed weapon, consequently serving two years in a Florida state prison. Then, in 2003, the rapper was charged with assault when he threatened to kill a man after a sporting event. Trick Daddy’s legal woes didn’t end there: in 2007, he was charged with disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest when he was involved in a brawl at Tootsie’s Cabaret.
Young, 39, born and raised in Liberty City, was stopped as he backed his green, two-door coupe down the driveway of his Miramar home, and was then requested by officers to get out of the car.
Broward Sheriff’s Office task force members had gone to Trick Daddy’s home after securing a “sniff warrant,” a document that is signed by a judge, giving police permission to do an outside perimeter search of a home with drug-detecting dogs. Broward County’s Drug Task Force had been “conducting surveillance” where Trick Daddy lives 20 miles north of Miami.
According to the arrest report, when the officer explained he was he was there with a “sniff warrant,” Young admitted he had cocaine and marijuana in his home. At first, Young signed the consent form to agreeing to entry into his home, but then rescinded after police entered. The search took place at 2 pm against his wishes.
The report also says that, when Young protested, the officer informed him he was driving with a suspended license.
“He confirmed he was aware and asked if it was in reference to child support payments,” an officer states in the police report.
Within four hours, officers had secured a search warrant that allowed them into the home. There, they found a gram of cocaine on a nightstand, ammunition, and a 9mm Sig Sauer P220 handgun under a pillow.
As a result of the search, Young was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine, and driving with a suspended license. He was released from Broward County jail on $6,100 bond early Friday.
The front page of TMZ, the popular online entertainment and gossip site, displayed Young’s mug shot picture on Friday, with the headline: Trick Daddy Arrested, Enters Mugshot Hall of Fame.
Trick Daddy is admittedly looking quite rough in his arrest photo, perhaps due to heavy drug use and perhaps due, in part, to his having lupus – an auto-immune disorder. Lupus affects the skin; the rapper has said that he has stopped taking medication to combat the disease, “Because for every medicine they gave me I had to take a test or another medicine every thirty days or so to make sure that medicine wasn’t causing side effects dealing with kidney or liver failure…I just said all together I ain’t taking no medicine.”
Trick Daddy hasn’t released an album since 2009’s Finally Famous: Born a Thug, Still a Thug.
