In the News: Miley Cyrus Denies Drug Overdose Rumors

Last month, Miley Cyrus ended up in the hospital for more than a week and had to cancel or reschedule a number of U.S. shows. Cyrus was initially planning to kick off her Bangerz tour in Europe with shows in Amsterdam and Antwerp, Belgium, but those plans were changed because of her hospital stay.

She was out of the hospital by April 24, after which she spent two more weeks laid up in bed. But now Miley is feeling “better than ever.”

The 21-year-old, who resumed her Bangerz Tour in London Tuesday after several weeks off following a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic, which set off a flurry of rumors that the young starlet had been hospitalized due to a drug overdose.

Cyrus showed up at a press conference at O2 Arena before she went onstage, looking to set reporters straight about what really happened.

“I didn’t have a drug overdose,” Cyrus said. “I took some sh*tty antibiotics that a doctor gave me for a sinus infection and I had a reaction.” She added, “There is nothing I would rather not do than lay in a bed for two weeks. It was the most miserable two weeks of my life.”

She went on to say, “I’m on this crazy vitamin rush and crazy honey and lavender. I learned a lot about taking care of yourself [during those three weeks]. I’m probably the only one on this tour who doesn’t drink or smoke before a show, as I take this really seriously. It’s almost like being an athlete being up here, because if someone was f*cked up, they definitely couldn’t do my show.”

“I’m feeling good, I’m alive—so that’s f*cking awesome,” and added, “I’m the poster child for good health.”

As if in an effort to convince reporters that the incident was as innocuous as she claimed, Cyrus then added, “I’ve been laying down for three weeks. I’m gonna go off—I’m like a star waiting to explode.” And Miley didn’t let down her fans – as promised, the star seemed to explode like a supernova on stage.

According to the Daily Mail, Miley’s show in London was pretty wild, indeed, in total classic Miley fashion with her usual lewd gestures and outrageous costumes that her fans have come to expect and love.

One fan who was present at the London show told the Mail, “[Miley] got loads of same-sex people to [make-out] in the audience and put them on camera on a giant screen and make a speech about how we should all just ‘be ourselves.’”

After her London performance, Cyrus was elated to find out that she had acquired a new celebrity fan in British pop star Lily Allen, who was outright in her support of the recently-recovered singer. Not such a bad way to get back to her tour and rally the fans.

Regarding the show, Allen tweeted “That was basically the best thing I’ve ever seen #BangerzTour #MileyCyrus.” She emphasized her excitement by punctuating her tweet with an explosion of happy emojis.
