  • In the News: Dennis Rodman Gets Drunk, Vomits and Defecates In North Korea Hotel Room

The former NBA star checked into rehab after returning from North Korea to the U.S. in January

  • Unidentified hotel staff told a publication that Rodman acted like ‘an animal’ and made a mess in his hotel room

According to hotel staff in North Korea, Dennis Rodman was drunk, uncontrollable and destructive during his recent trip there.

The former star of the NBA has visited North Korea four times now. These latest claims were published in South Korea and refer to Rodman’s most recent trip, where he stayed at the Koryo Hotel.

The first public indication that Rodman’s substance abuse problems were reemerging came during his damaging interview on CNN where he faulted American missionary Kenneth Bae for his imprisonment. However, since entering a New Jersey facility for alcohol rehabilitation, Rodman apologized for the comments he made during a previous trip to North Korea.

New reports from South Korean papers indicate that Rodman’s recent struggle with alcohol stretches farther back than this, however. Apparently, the people dealing with Rodman during his December trip had been keeping quiet about earlier incidences.

“Rodman was drunk the whole week of his stay. And the night before he left for the U.S., he was drunk unconscious, and vomited everywhere he turned. He even urinated and emptied the bowels in the hallway,” a source told Free North Korea Radio.

During his December trip, Rodman helped train the basketball team but, ti was during his January trip that his drinking reportedly really got out of control – prompting him to enter rehab when he returned to the U.S.

The unnamed sources told the South Korean paper that Rodman’s behavior not only reflected poorly on himself but, also on the country’s feared leader, Kim Jong Un.

“The stench was just horrible and people are criticizing not only Rodman, but also Kim Jong-un saying that ‘No one in a right mind would be a friend with Rodman. An animal that he is,’” the source said.

It’s alleged that Rodman was given a warning when he left, although it remains unclear as to who issued the warning, and was told that he wouldn’t be welcome to return until he cleaned up his act.

“Never will you be welcome here without the completion of your alcohol abuse treatment program,” the source told the paper.

Rodman’s friends said that the athlete was “plied with alcohol” as soon as he landed in North Korea, a  visit that was planned because of Kim Jong Un’s birthday on January 8th. Upon his arrival, Rodman was greeted with personalized bottles of vodka that were adorned with drawn-on pictures of both Rodman and Kim Jong Un.

This latest stint in rehab is not Rodman’s first. The 52-year-old has received treatment for his alcoholism in 2008. Rodman went again in 2009 as part of his time on the show Celebrity Apprentice and then a third time later that same year when he received treatment while being on the show Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew.
