I am Addicted, Now What?

If you are addicted you are probably wondering what to do now. It can be extremely scary and uncomfortable once you realize you are addicted. Whether or not you are dealing with alcohol addiction or drug addiction the prospect of what you need to do to stop using is a scary thought. Ask any alcoholic or addict regardless if they are still in active addiction or now in recovery and they will tell you the beginning steps for them were full of fear. Most of us are very afraid at the thought of trying to change the fact that we are addicted.

The truth of the matter though is we are addicted and now we have to do something about it. The first thing to do is to begin thinking about whether or not you want to attend drug rehab or alcohol treatment-which essentially are the same thing. Now at first thought you may not want to attend a drug or alcohol treatment center but the truth is you probably need to. You may even need a detox facility to help with the physical withdrawals of whatever you are addicted to. Being addicted and overcoming that addiction is no easy feat, its going to take some open mindedness, willingness, and honesty in order for you to truly recover from your addiction. While it is not easy to swallow that truth of your situation once you do you can start to do the right things to begin recovering. Recovering from being addicted is one of the most amazing experiences you will ever have and while it may be absolutely terrifying at first, while it may seem like the hardest thing you have ever done and while it may be drenched with fear and anger- you can and you will move past all that-one step at a time.

Sometimes the things in our life that are our biggest obstacles are there to be overcome so we can move on to much bigger and better things. Being addicted is hard because it’s the beginning of a journey that includes the mental, physical and spiritual aspects of yourself. With that let me say that I once was addicted and I wondered the same thing, now what? What do I need to do? How do I do it? I know what this feels like and its scary, thats why I hope this blog can help. It can somewhat give you some direction into what to do next now that you know you are addicted.

What I did is I found a 12-Step program which is of paramount of importance before anything else-or at least it was for me. I went to a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, along with a halfway house and have found myself now sitting here writing this blog with over a year clean and I am no longer addicted.

I get it and you can recover.
