Inpatient Rehab
Inpatient Rehab refers to an intensive program that offers therapeutic services for drug abuse and addiction. It
The term “rehab” is short for the word rehabilitation and refers to a facility that offers treatment for drug abuse and addiction. Rehab sometimes includes a medical detox program that serves the purpose of helping alcohol- and drug-dependent people to ease completely off substances with less discomfort than going cold turkey, or stopping abruptly. Another part of rehab is the inpatient program. This part of treatment involves therapy that addresses drug addiction behaviors and coping mechanisms to utilize in a sober lifestyle.
The Three Main Steps
Drug detoxification, “detox”: This might be a part of the same facility that you will be receiving your inpatient services or it might be at another location. Detox is not always necessary but oftentimes, people going into rehab will need a drug detox program. You will be tested to see what drugs you have been using and how much is in your system. Drug detoxification only deals with the physical dependency and addiction to drugs. Clinicians also evaluate you to see if you have any co-occurring disorders, dual diagnosis, and mental/behavioral issues.
Stabilization: In this stage, you will be guided through the process of detoxification, usually with the help of medications to ease your withdrawal symptoms. During this time, you will learn what to expect during treatment and the recovery process.
Inpatient Rehabilitation: This usually lasts for about 30 days. The purpose is to prepare you for the actual recovery process. The psychological aspects of drug addiction will be addressed through one-on-one and group therapy.
Florida Model Rehabilitation
The Florida model rehabilitation center is not a residential inpatient program in any way. Unlike residential inpatient, Florida model rehab centers do not have on-site living. This type of program provides therapy and other programs for addicts and alcoholics during certain hours of the day, and then provides transportation to off-site housing in the evening.
This can be beneficial to those who require less supervision but still require treatment during the day. Another benefit is that the structure of Florida model rehabilitation programs encourages independent living skills while providing support and a safe environment to learn these things. You will be living in a typical apartment with one or two roommates and so you will have your own washer and dryer and kitchen. You will do your own laundry, keep your room and apartment tidy, and cook your own meals. Grocery cards and transportation to the store is provided at Florida model rehabilitation centers.
However, this also means that there are more outside threats to a newly recovering person’s sobriety and more opportunities to use drugs or alcohol because of the lack of supervision.
Residential Inpatient
The main difference between Florida Model Rehabilitation and residential rehab is the way in which the living quarters are set up. In residential rehab, also called a “stand-alone” facility, everything is housed under one roof: the bedrooms, common areas, dining room/cafeteria, and group rooms. Another way to describe residential rehab is “dormitory style” rehab.
Residential inpatient rehabs are helpful to those who require a more intense and secure environment. Meals are provided and there is housekeeping staff that change the beds and clean the bathrooms daily. This type of program, the residential inpatient structure, is the more traditional approach to inpatient care.
