When it comes to having a drinking problem, whether you are sober now or not, you can look back on your drinking and see that it might not be normal. There are big signs that show you that your drinking has escalated and it is becoming worse. I’ve thought of 15 signs you drink too much (and may need some help) below. If some of these apply to you, you should probably look into getting some help with your alcohol abuse.
15 Signs You Drink Too Much (And May Need Some Help)
1. You fear that your neighbors judge you when they see your recycling bin or trash cans (at least I recycle, those people probably hoard bottles and beer cans all over their house!)
2. Your job has started to interfere with your drinking (going to have to cut back on work, my drinking career is suffering.)
3. You always end up in fights with people you have no business fighting when you’re out at the bar (you don’t know why you always get angry when you drink.)
4. You never remember how you got home (or pretty much anything about your drunken nights.)
5. You call the cops on your friend/family member for taking your keys from you while intoxicated. (I actually did this, and the cops showed up and laughed)
6. Your weekly and monthly budget all revolves around your drinking (guess there won’t be enough money for food or gas this week.)
7. When people call you insane, it just inspires you to drink more and prove them wrong (you think I’m crazy? I’ll show you just how not crazy I am, I can drink normally)
8. Your idea of weekly grocery shopping is a trip to the liquor store (you and the cashier at the liquor store are practically best friends now.)
9. If other people have booze, you take advantage and drink as much of it as you can (free booze? Other peoples booze? Yes, please!)
10. Opening a new bottle of alcohol is like unwrapping a Christmas present for you (it’s one of the most exciting things even though it never lasts long.)
11. When you aren’t drinking, it feels like a part of you is missing (you can’t really do much of anything without alcohol.)
12. You’re in denial about having a substance abuse problem with alcohol (no, you have a drinking problem; look at how much you drink!)
13. You’re always thinking of new ways to hide your drinking from the public (and you get pretty creative with it.)
14. You think everybody starts there day with an alcoholic beverage (how else does anyone get out of bed?)
15. You’ve learned you get into trouble when drinking in public, so you have decided to just drink at home and not go out (you pretty much never leave your house anymore.)
All jokes aside, being an alcoholic is a serious issue and a disease that can be treated. The best option would be to look into detox and treatment centers to help you stop drinking and stay stopped.
