Taking a look back at the year 2013, I noticed that certain drugs were abused more frequently than others. As it changes every year, or even from month-to-month with the way drug use is in America, I made a list of the 5 most abused drugs of 2013.
The 5 Most Abused Drugs of 2013: Heroin
The use of Heroin has definitely increased a lot more recently than ever. There have been Heroin Epidemics in many different states and even situations in New Jersey where Police officers are now constantly carrying a Heroin overdose antidote with them. I know that whenever I go over to Palm Partners Detox, there is always a large amount of people withdrawing from Heroin.
The 5 Most Abused Drugs of 2013: Synthetic Pot
In 2013, there were many crazed stories about people and their experiences with the new fad of synthetic pot use. The synthetic pot use has recently become more dangerous and more commonly used. There have been incidents where some teenagers have had seizures and died or freaked out and killed themselves. Synthetic Pot has become a serious drug of abuse this last year.
The 5 Most Abused Drugs of 2013: Prescription Pain Killers
Prescription Pain Killers have always big very big amongst Americans. There are all the pill-mill states and people faking injuries just to get some pain pills. In the end of my addiction; pain killers is what brought me to my ultimate bottom. Prescription pain killers are an increasingly largely abused drug and will continue to be as long as they exist, in my opinion.
The 5 Most Abused Drugs of 2013: Suboxone and Methadone
Something that is newly being abused, or at least its news to me, is Suboxone and Methadone. These drugs were originally intended to just help drug addicts get off or heroin and opiates and to just help them get through the withdrawals. Now, doctors have been prescribing them to patients for long-term use and they’ve ended up being highly addictive and abused by people. Apparently, the withdrawals from these drugs are worse than those of heroin and opiate by themselves.
The 5 Most Abused Drugs of 2013: Adderall and Stimulants
Study drugs or speed is becoming more and more abused amongst students and college kids. These drugs are used to help people stay up all night and cram for that final exam or even just to help your average alcoholic stay up drinking all night long. These have been more widely recognized than before because for a point in time everyone just had ADD or ADHD and ‘needed’ these drugs, even if they really didn’t. These drugs are abused continually, even though they can end up having really bad side effects just like all the other drugs. I think some people find comfort in the fact that things are prescribed by a doctor, when really that makes no difference at all.
Even though all these drugs are completely different, they all have one thing in common: addiction is the same no matter what the substance is. It doesn’t matter what I was using, at the end of the day (for me at least) I am the problem and drugs and alcohol were my solution. Luckily, I got to a point where I was so emotionally broken and miserable that I had to change my life or go on using drugs and die. I am very grateful for that bottom now and wouldn’t change it for anything. Anyone can find recovery and it doesn’t matter what you were using.
