Your life is spinning out of control
To normies, drugs are fun and cool. For those of us who struggle with addiction, however, we know that drugs spell trouble. It might have started out as recreational use but, things got really bad. So much so, that we eventually had to do something drastic: change our whole lives around by becoming clean and sober and working a program of recovery so that we can maintain our new, clean lifestyle. In case it’s been a while and in case you’ve forgotten, here are some gifs representing 15 reasons drugs are the WORST.
#1. It Feels Like You’re Treading Water
You know that feeling of treading water enough to keep your head just above the water line? That’s why drugs are the worst. Because it gets to a point where you are struggling day-to-day just to get by. At this point, you’re not living; you are merely surviving.
#2. The Guilt and Shame
So many of us were unable to look at ourselves in the mirror from the extreme guilt and shame we felt.
#3. Being Extremely Sensitive
Even though we often turn to drugs in order to numb ourselves and keep from feeling uncomfortable feelings, drugs are the worst because they often end up causing us to be overly sensitive and irrational. Which leads to…
#4. Being That Person That No One Wants to Be Around
What a jerk!
Being overly sensitive and irritable tends to turn you into a bitchy person (whether you’re male or female – this is not gender-specific). Once you push people away, whether intentionally or unintentionally, you end up alone.
#5. Feeling Unique, But in a Twisted Kind of Way
Those of us who have struggled with drugs often feel different from everyone else. We tend to believe that we think and feel different and this makes us the only one of our kind. This is an extremely lonely and isolating way to live.
#6. Speaking of Isolating…
Often times, when we are in active addiction, we isolate to the point that we have no friends whatsoever. The only people we interact with are our dealer and maybe a few using buddies.
#7. You Start to Believe That You’re a Waste of Space
This is when things really start getting bad, because you feel and believe that you’re worthless and that perhaps, your life isn’t worth living.
#8. Drugs Make Everything Worse
At first, we needed drugs to make things better. But, soon enough, things only got worse with drugs – never better.
#9. You Get Tired of Pretending
Trying to keep track of all the lies you’re telling and to whom becomes hard to do after a while. There comes a point where, you simply don’t have the energy or concern to lie anymore.
#10. You Turn Into a Hot Mess
Even for functional addicts, our lives eventually become unmanageable in one way or another.
#11. Things Fall Apart
You feel as if you only have yourself to count on and it’s becoming harder and harder to hold it together. All because of drugs.
#12. You Stop Caring
Drugs are the worst because, eventually, you stop caring. It’s all too much.
#13. This
This is how you feel inside. And maybe you’re actually physically convulsing, too. Drugs take a serious toll on our psyches as well as our physical bodies.
#14. You Want to Die/Kill Yourself
#15. You Don’t Care If You Die
Eventually, it ll becomes a vicious circle of wanting to die and continuing to take drugs with the hope that you simply don’t wake up the next day.
